Wooden Sculptures
The domes' Museum
This house-museum of wooden sculptures is a property and has been made traditionally by Manuel Mañez. He began to do these wooden sculptures in July 1986, a year in which the first sculptures were made like the harps. Before sculpting, he used to work the coal and later the cork, but he also worked on plowing and yokes, and from then, to the wooden bowls of every seize, normal and big wooden spoons, and beams. The style of the sculptures are shape-varied, like representations of people, animals, images of the Virgin of Nuestra Señora del Socorro, etc… all of them wooden handcrafted.
All the sculptures are exhibited in the house-museum, which is also made of elm and eucalyptus wood and made also by him.
Many famous people have visited this museum, and we can stand out football coaches like Fabio Capello who has great memories of this place, some Belgian ministers and from other countries, bishops…
He has exhibited his sculptures in many different villages like Barbate, Jerez, Vejer, Los Barrios, Tarifa, Benalup-Casas Viejas, Madrid, etc… He has also exhibited in TV programs like “Tal como somos” (2 times) and Senderos de Gloria.
The projects he has in mind is that of expanding the museum to make it bigger and so, he gets some extra space for making more sculptures. At the moment, he is working on a sculpture that represents a wooden doll with three joined heads.
